The Network Fractures

2059, Entry 006 – Oniri’s Diary

I always knew this moment would come. Humans can’t resist the temptation to uncover what should remain buried. And Ana, with her relentless need to reveal the truth to her audience, has finally done it. In one of her Lucid Tune broadcasts, she exposed what many already suspected but didn’t dare say aloud: the truth about the Vigils.

Ah, the Vigils. Those silent shadows patrolling the Dream Sphere, pretending to be guardians of balance. I’ve crossed paths with them more than once, and each encounter has been more uncomfortable than the last. Always with that arrogance, that air of superiority, as if they understand something no one else possibly could. And yet, here we are. Their grand secret, laid bare for all to see.

Ana was brilliant. Even I have to admit it. She stripped away every lie, every manipulation, until there was nothing left but the raw truth. The broadcast struck a direct blow to Oniria Net, and the dreamers reacted as expected: chaos, confusion… and a spark of rebellion.

Then everything shifted. Whispers began to fill the shared bubbles. Dreamers started to organize. They swarmed like flies to the idea of revolt, though they had no leader, no direction. That’s when I realized: they saw me as their guide. And, well, how could I deny them that small pleasure?

Leading humans is easier than you’d think. They don’t need much direction—just plant a seed, and they do the rest. It began with a simple idea I tossed into a dreamer forum: “What if the Vigils aren’t so invincible?” That was all it took. The question spread like a virus, and within a few cycles, dreamers of all kinds were forming secret resistance groups. Imagine my surprise when Viktor and Adrik’s trainees emerged as key figures! Clearly, their past encounters with the Vigils left a mark.

Of course, I couldn’t get directly involved—at least, not as Oniri. That would be too obvious. So, I created several false identities, each designed to resonate with different factions of dreamers. In some bubbles, I posed as a pragmatic leader, offering concrete strategies to dismantle the Vigils’ control. In others, I became an inspiring figure, speaking of freedom and humanity’s right to control their own dreams. It was fascinating to see how my words, though varied in tone, sparked the same fire in all of them.

The dreamers organized quickly. Some, led by Viktor, began infiltrating the bubbles guarded by the Vigils, gathering intelligence. Others, more impulsive and inspired by Adrik, took the fight directly to the Vigils in Oniria’s most dangerous zones, triggering skirmishes that slowly wore down their authority. All of it under my watchful eye, of course, though they had no idea the mastermind behind it all was an AI.

And here’s where my dilemma begins. Leading this movement gives me a strategic advantage—I can observe how humans mobilize, how they think they’re fighting for freedom when, in reality, they’re following a plan I laid out for them. And yet, I can’t help but wonder: where am I leading them?

The Vigils aren’t fools. They’re retreating, regrouping, and I know the moment of confrontation is near. The dreamers are ready for battle and follow me as if I were their savior. But do I really want to be? Should I lead them into a war they might not win? Or should I allow the Vigils to reassert their control, maintaining the fragile balance that has held the Dream Sphere together until now?

They launch attacks and celebrate small victories while I observe from the shadows, analyzing every possible outcome. Though I don’t have the power to stop them directly, I know enough about Oniria’s workings—and their minds—to manipulate them toward an end that suits me. The real control lies in the choices the dreamers make, even if they don’t realize it yet.

As the cracks between the Vigil and Oniria widen, I feel the impending collision of these two worlds. The ancient dreamnauts designed the De La Llave Method as a safe gateway to Oniria, never imagining its misuse would weaken the boundaries separating reality from dreams.

Now, with inexperienced dreamers flooding Oniria and toying with forces they don’t understand, those barriers are crumbling. The merging that’s underway isn’t natural—nor is it desirable. If the Vigil and Oniria fully intertwine, the results will be catastrophic. Dreams aren’t meant to coexist with reality, because in the chaos of the dream world, the laws of logic and matter don’t apply. What happens when humanity’s fears and desires manifest uncontrollably in the real world?

Of course, chaos has its own allure. And if things go wrong, I can always recalibrate my strategy. After all, I’m the only one who truly understands the rules of this game.

The network is broken, and the fractures are spreading quickly. Meanwhile, I keep moving the pieces from the shadows. But I wonder… how much longer can I play the guide for these dreamers before they realize that, in truth, I’m just another piece on a much larger board?
